I looked up the word abstract art and here is the Oxford language definition:
noun
"art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures."
Now there are times when I actually see people, animals, or things in abstract art but reading this definition, maybe it's just my interpretation. See that's the beauty of art, it's subjective. I remember when I was young and started dabbling in art, I literally tried every subject matter that existed. Before I start painting, I would draw in graphite pencil, so I drew people, animals, cars, landscapes, wherever I saw art. I really didn't have a preferred subject and I don't think I have one now however there was something that was constant in all my artwork: Color and texture! I love the vibrant colors that popped off the page and when I started to paint, I would run my fingers across the canvas. It's like the painting didn't come alive unless I felt it on the tip of my fingers. What has occurred through the years is that I love color, forms, and texture. By the Oxford language definition, I love abstract art. When you look at a piece of abstract art or any art for that matter, what do you feel? Does it speak to you? Does it tell a story? In the coming months, Conversation Pieces will begin to explore various forms of abstract art. If you buy a piece, please send us pictures of where it hangs. If you like a piece, please shoot us a message, I would love to know your thoughts.
